THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — A stretch of Highway 19 in Thomas County will be shut down for the next 12 hours after a vehicle overturned, spilling a hazardous substance on the road.
Thomas County Emergency Management says a hazardous material spill has closed the intersection at Highway 19 and North Bypass.
The call came in about the spill at 10:49 a.m. on Thursday.
They say a semi-truck overturned, spilling the hazardous material. EMA officials say the spill has been contained, but expect the road to stay closed for at least 12 hours.
The driver of the vehicle was injured, though officials have not commented on the severity. They are working now to get the semi flipped back over.
Thomas County Schools have been notified concerning traffic Thursday afternoon bus routes.
At this time, Thomas County Schools are working on a traffic plan for release and will be contacting parents very soon.
