Officers of the narcotics division of the Jambi Police have foiled a marijuana-trafficking operation and confiscated 29 kilograms of the drug at a warehouse within an elementary school compound in Jambi.
The Jambi Police received a tip off about drug trafficking from North Sumatra to Jambi after arresting a North Sumatra resident identified only as JT on Jan. 18. JT was arrested at KM 181 in the Tanjabbar area.
After further investigation, the police found out that JT worked as a courier for the drug-trafficking operation. He stored the drugs at the warehouse of an elementary school where he worked as a security guard.
“He could keep the marijuana freely at the school because of his job, and the school officials were unaware about what he was doing,” Jambi Police chief Insp. Gen. Muchlis AS said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that based on JT’s statement, the police arrested another suspect identified only as JH who also worked as a security guard at the school.
Based on the police investigation, this was not the first time JT and JH were involved in drug trafficking. In October 2019, the police found out that both of them had also smuggled marijuana.
“They managed to smuggle 15 kilograms of marijuana before,” said chief of the narcotics division Sr. Comr. Eka Wahyudianta.
He added that JH had previously been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in a drugs case and served time in Padang Pariaman Prison. (dpk)
