SAP has announced the launch of the next phase of its Plastics Cloud system that helps companies to track the use of plastic in their supply chains. The Plastics Cloud collects existing and live data from the supply chain to reduce plastic waste. It uses SAP’s Leonardo technology, including machine learning, to compile information to forecast trends in plastics purchasing and recycling.
Now, SAP’s software systems helps companies to adapt to changing regulations, global standards and best practices. SAP provides information to understand what kind of materials are used, with the support of local recycling infrastructures and the understanding of policies of different cities, regions and countries. Companies can accurately calculate the environmental and business impact of using more recycled or reusable materials and packaging. The new Plastics Cloud offering is linked to a secondary materials marketplace based on Ariba Network for the trade recycled plastics and plastic alternatives.
