PLANS to transform two derelict buildings in the town centre into flats have been given the go ahead.
A former carpet warehouse in St Georges Street is set to be partly demolished and turned into 10 self-contained apartments.
The plans, which have been approved by Bolton Council, include building a three-storey extension at the side of the property and a loft conversion.
This comes after plans to turn the former Founders Arms pub into seven self-contained flats were passed.
The buildings are located next to the former Wesleyan Chapel, now a Stanley Casino, and the Old Town Hall – both of which are listed.
The new flats would accommodate one or two people each.
Planning officers at the town hall said the development of the former carpet warehouse would provide adequate living standards and would reduce crime in the area.
They said: “It is considered that the development would preserve the buildings architectural features while bringing a building that has been vacant for some time back into use, in turn positively impacting onto the town centre and St Georges conservation area.”
