SAS Cargo will partner with WebCargo, a Freightos Group Co., to provide freight forwarders a digital air cargo service with fully digital live rates, capacity and e-booking, the companies said in a Nov. 26 news release.
Via WebCargo, the SAS Cargo services will be available to 1,600-plus freight forwarders and more than 26,000 unique users worldwide, the companies said. Together, the forwarders drive more than 30% of global air cargo by tonnage, the companies said.
Only a few airlines have transmitted instant and dynamic rates, and specific capacity, in real time, SAS Cargo and WebCargo said. Pricing and booking often are manually written. That can add two to three days to the process, the companies said.
WebCargo enables application-program-interface connectivity, which means the entire e-booking process happens online, company officials said. When a freight forwarder selects a rate, the e-booking is transmitted to the airline instantly without any manual process. WebCargo said it also enables forwarders to view live rates side-by-side with their negotiated contract rates.
WebCargo said it is used over 1 million times a month by more than 1,600 logistics providers, for e-bookings, access or negotiated contract pricing, and air cargo capacity availability.
SAS Cargo Group is the cargo and logistics branch of SAS, Scandinavian Airlines. It has managed the cargo capacity on the entire SAS network since its foundation in 1946. SAS Cargo was established as an independent and wholly owned subsidiary to SAS in 2001. SAS Cargo offers cargo capacity among its main hubs in Copenhagen, Denmark; Oslo, Norway; and Stockholm, plus 125 destinations in Europe, the U.S. and Asia, as well as through its trucking network.
WebCargo is a platform for live air-cargo rate distribution and bookings among hundreds of airlines and 1,600-plus forwarders. Partners include Lufthansa, Air France KLM, IAG Cargo and United.
