The gift inventory guide that teachers will really want for Christmas

What do teachers want as a gift during the holidays? Not an apple

When I asked parents and teachers, the answer, overwhelmingly, was gift cards and sincere thanks. Gift cards give teachers the freedom to buy something for the classroom or indulge in something they want (deservedly, of course). Cash feels transactional ($ 50 for that A +) and prepaid debit cards often come with fees. Gift cards, on the other hand, do not expire for five years (although there may be fees if you do not use them within a year) by law.

That said, gift cards themselves can be boring to give away. The solution? Dress them.

Gift Card Envelopes

A simple way is to place the gift cards in a blank envelope decorated by your child. These mini brown envelopes offer a nice blank canvas for colored doodles.

Gift Card + Treats

You can also choose a theme and match the gift card accordingly. For example, for a gift card at a grocery store or bakery in the neighborhood, add it to a basket full of some of the favorite treats purchased at your family’s store. This one-pint basket is small, but your child can paint it and hold some chocolate bars. Add cellophane and tape (plus a trip to the grocery store) and everything is ready.

Or put a gift card to the cinema in a basket with popcorn and candy.

Or slide a gift card to an office supply store in a basket with pencils, dry erase markers and erasers.

Combining a gift card and a book donation can also be a fun and creative way to give something to both the classroom and the teacher.

For example, Magic Ramen, a biography of an illustrated book about the inventor of instant ramen, or Minette & # 39; s Feast: The Delicious Story of Julia Child and Her Cat can be combined with a gift certificate for a local restaurant, a Food delivery service, a grocery store or other food supplier.

Another idea: Take a picture of me, James VanDerZee!, Radiant child: the story of the young artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and between the lines: how Ernie Barnes went from the football field to the art gallery, all beautiful illustrated books on Artists, can be combined with a gift card in a craft store.

Nerdy Gifts

Of course, if you want to completely avoid the gift card, how about something a little nerdy, like this dinosaur necklace for a preschool teacher?

Or this cheesy science keychain? He says: “I can be N-Er-Dy, but only periodically.”

Or these banned book socks? Titles include The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Handmaid’s Tale.

Felt board

And this felt board can be a fun addition to a classroom and a way for the teacher to share an inspiring message or announcement.
