OAKLAND — Arson and fire-prevention investigators were at the scene of a fire that appeared to be related to a marijuana-grow operation, authorities said Friday.
At 12:40 p.m., fire dispatchers sent word of a smoke report in the 5200 block of East 12th Street, and firefighters responded aboard four engines and two trucks with two battalion chiefs, Oakland Fire Department’s Heather Mozdean said.
When firefighters arrived, they found a tightly sealed two-story warehouse that appeared to house a marijuana grow.
It took fire crews until 1:20 p.m. to get the flames under control, due to difficulty finding the fire’s seat. A preliminary investigation indicated the fire began in the building’s electrical system.
There were no reports of injuries. It was not clear what the extent of the damage was to the warehouse.
