The housing market in December inside Midland County topped December 2018 totals in every category, according to the Texas A&M Real Estate Center.

The average price of a home sold — $339,669 – was up 5.4 percent year over year. The median price for a home sold climbed from $285,000 in December 2018 to $308,000 in December 2019 That is an increase of 8.07 percent and was the third highest median price of any month in 2019.
The more dramatic increase happened with homes sold during the month. The 242 sold in December 2019 equated to a 29.4 percent increase compared to December 2018. The number of homes sold also helped total dollar volume to jump from $60.86 million to $82.19 million year over year.
Year over year there are also were more homes on the market — 344 to 568 — and the months of inventory rose from 1.5 to 2.4.
To provide a little perspective on the growth of the market over the past decade, Texas A&M Real Estate Center reports 143 homes were sold inside Midland County in December 2011. The average price for a home sold that month was $204,701, the median price was $180,000, and total dollar volume for the market in December 2011 was $29.72 million.
