A stunning new gaming arcade and eSports centre is to open in Scunthorpe in just weeks.

The Arcade Warehouse will be Lincolnshire’s first ever eSports centre where gamers can compete or play alongside each other with state-of-the-art gaming equipment.

After years of laying the foundations and establishing themselves as a technology store in  Mannaberg Way, PCSCuk Technology Centre are behind the new venture.

The company says the entertainment centre will have games for all ages to enjoy – from retro and moderns arcades such as Air hockey tables, pool tables, to a virtual reality section, 10 state-of-the-art eSports gaming PC’s and a massive 140-inch screen showing live streams.

There will also be cult classic games such as the original Super Mario, Space Invaders, Grand Theft Auto to new games such as Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto, Fallout, World of Warcraft and much, much more.

Games and gadgets will also be available for toddlers.

In 2012, store owner Caton Airey started his company, PCSCuk Techonology Centre – a tech store selling computers and gadgets.

They were originally based in a small office in South Park industrial estate. After a few successful years, they were able to move into their huge premises on Mannaberg Way.

They have now been in their new premises for one year, and are now at a place where they can expand and finally be able to bring an entertainment centre to the town.

Caton said: “It’s something we’ve always wanted to do – bringing this sort of entertainment to Scunthorpe.

“This is the first of it’s kind anywhere near our area really and that’s a big reason why we’re doing this.”

Caton, from Scunthorpe said he had always wanted to bring this sort of entertainment to the town, rather than having to have to go to the likes of Sheffield, Leeds or elsewhere for a day out.

He said: “I am a Scunthorpe lad myself.I have three kids, and whenever we want to go on a family day out we usually find ourselves leaving the town – which is a shame. This is a great town, and we just want to bring something that it doesn’t really have.

“Of course their are things to do here, but for entertainment, which the younger generation quite clearly love – there’s nothing like this here.

“eSports are now absolutely huge – it has had such a huge rise in popularity over the last few years and I think the quality of gaming is a big reason why.

“But some of the games are very expensive. Here, you can come and pay very little to play these games and experience all the latest technology.”

And Caton said that family aspect is hugely important to him, which is why The Arcade Warehouse will have games and arcades for all to enjoy.

He said: “Although we will have nights for over 18’s, it is definitely important to us to make this a family environment and it will be just that here.

“I’m sure a lot of parents will enjoy seeing Space Invaders, Doom and Super Mario – the games from when they were younger – along with the evolution of games up to where we are now. Some of the games we’ll have here are very hard to find anywhere else.

“We’ve also invested in bringing touch screen televisions and interactive learning activities for children in a separate part of the warehouse.

In the future, they will host several gaming events – where players can compete in teams against each other for prizes or bragging rights!

Caton added: “It’s been a long time coming, and it’s been a difficult few months, but we’re really, really excited and feeling very positive for what’s to come.

“We’ve received a lot of support from local business and had a lot of favours come our way – as well as receiving some really good feedback online.

“We’re all just really excited to get this finished now and for you all to see it when it’s ready for our opening on April 3rd.”

The company has already employed nine people in the last year, and Caton says he expects to create three more jobs at The Arcade Warehouse.

You’ll have to be quick though, they have already taken several pre-bookings for private hire parties!

eSports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or eSports) is a form of sport competition using video games. eSports often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players, individually or as teams.

Although organized competitions have long been a part of video game culture, these were largely between amateurs until the late 2000s, when participation by professional gamers and spectatorship in these events through live streaming saw a large surge in popularity.

By the 2010s, eSports was a significant factor in the video game industry, with many game developers actively designing and providing funding for tournaments and other events.

In the USA, regular eSports tournaments are held for games such as Fortnite, League of Legends, Call of Duty and Madden – with the winners taking home up to $1million.

Richard Bleveins, known as Ninja, is the first real eSports gamer whose fame rose from his online presence as he streams himself in several eSports teams. His net worth is said to be up to $10million.
