Babcock Team 31, led by Babcock, has announced that the first round of supply chain contracts have been awarded on schedule to support the team as they deliver the Royal Navyβs Type 31 general purpose frigate programme.
Lloyds Register, will deliver Classification Society Plan Approval of the Type 31 Design and associated certification to LR Naval Ship Rules and TYCO will design, supply, certificate and commission the Fire Detection and Protection Systems for the frigates. They join Thales, who were formally announced as the first major supplier to the programme at the end of 2019.
Team 31βs solution, Arrowhead 140 develops a proven design that will meet the requirements of modern, global navies and itβs a product that the supply chain has already shown enthusiasm to support and deliver for UK and international customers.
As part of the comprehensive competitive process in 2019, Team 31βs proposal will deliver UK prosperity into the shipbuilding and extended Supply Chain through the Type 31 frigate programme.
Sean Donaldson, Managing Director for Energy & Marine, said: βWe are delighted to welcome Lloyds Register and TYCO to the supply chain for the Type 31 frigate programme. There has been a high level of interest from a wide range of companies due to our build and support approach.
βIt has been our intention, from the outset to develop a genuine UK wide supply chain and we continue to have conversations with other key suppliers about their capability to support this pathfinder programme for the Royal Navy, and broader export opportunities.β
