Dubai: Now, families of expatriates who passed away in UAE will be able to pay last respects to the deceased. The authorities have decided that cargo flights from UAE will be used for the repatriation of the bodies to respective places.
Following the cancellation of international passenger flights amid coronavirus outbreak, bodies of the deceased Keralites were not taken back to Kerala. While some bodies were buried in the foreign land itself, some are still in the mortuaries waiting for the authorities to be repatriated.
Family members of the deceased are worried that they will not be able to pay their last respects as there was no option for repatriation of the body. Finally, social activist Ashraf Thamarassery took the effort to use cargo flights for repatriation of bodies.
Some industrialists who read Ashraf’s Facebook post seeking help for repatriation of bodies to Kerala have made the arrangements to use cargo flights for the purpose.
Though repatriation of bodies through cargo flights will incur expense at the airport, bodies will be sent to Kerala from UAE without much delay.
On Sunday, bodies of Antony Jaison and Stephen Vitus who passed away due to cardiac arrest were sent to Thiruvananthapuram on a cargo flight of Emirates from Dubai.
Two more bodies will be sent back to Kerala in the cargo flight to Nedumbassery on Monday.
Social activists Ashraf Thamarassery and Riyas Koothuparamba informed that KV exports owner Rafeeq Thalassery has arranged the flight for the repatriation of bodies on Monday.
NORKA Roots CEO Harikrishnan Namboodiri and legal advisor Adv.Femin Panickassery declared that arrangements will be done to take the bodies to the native place if they receive any request from the airport
