Eight people were injured, two seriously, in a collision Friday between a cargo van and a school bus in Lake Elsinore.
The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Morro Way, near Grand Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The bus was transporting eight children to Lakeland Village School when the van driver apparently rolled through a stop sign, triggering the collision, a California Highway Patrol spokesman at the scene told ABC7.
The impact caused the van to become wedged against the bus, leaving one person trapped, the fire department reported. The victim was safely extricated by crews within a half-hour.
A 5-year-old girl in the van, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was seriously injured, as was the driver, also unrestrained, according to the CHP.
The two other occupants of the van suffered moderate injuries, while four children aboard the bus suffered unspecified minor injuries, according to reports from the scene.
All of the victims were taken to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment.
The crash investigation was ongoing.
