A leaked image of GameStop’s early 2020 product listings suggests that a new Nintendo Direct will be coming very soon. A number of Nintendo Directs were broadcast throughout 2019, and gamers feel as if it’s time for the first Direct of 2020 to arrive. Most of Nintendo’s announcements have come in the form of Nintendo Directs for quite a few years now. The unpredictable, sporadic nature of these broadcasts has made them a topic of constant interest and speculation for the Nintendo faithful, especially with the increased popularity of the Switch.

While the majority of Nintendo Directs don’t contain any earth-shattering reveals, that doesn’t stop fans from getting hyped up about each one – you never really know when Nintendo will drop a bombshell. Everybody has their own hopes and/or expectations for what the company will announce next, whether it’s the unveiling of a new character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or the long-awaited return of a beloved IP. In any case, it looks like we may not have to wait long to find out.

A photo recently posted by YuYuKamii on Twitter has some interesting implications for Nintendo fans. It shows a new GameStop listing of available SKUs for upcoming Nintendo Switch games. GameStop has done this in the past to prepare for the imminent announcements of multiple games in a Nintendo Direct, which suggests that a new broadcast will happen in the very near future. The list includes 15 open SKUs – an exceptionally high number. This could mean that Nintendo has some big reveals lined up for the beginning of 2020.

Many responses to the tweet are predicting that the broadcast might drop as early as next week, or as late as the end of the month. Naturally, there’s plenty of wild speculation going on as well, but some expectations are more reasonable than others. The final character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s DLC Fighter Pass is supposed to arrive before the end of February, making it likely that they will be shown off for the first time. An analyst also recently predicted the impending reveal of a “Switch Pro” with 4K, bigger cartridges, and a high price tag.

Given that Nintendo’s lineup of confirmed 2020 exclusives is looking relatively slim right now, it’s certainly possible that we’ll get info on some long-in-development projects – Metroid Prime 4 and the sequel to Breath of the Wild come to mind. There’s also the (remote) possibility of new entries in once-great series that have been gone for far too long, such as F-Zero or EarthBound. Regardless, it’s just a matter of waiting for the official word from Nintendo.
