Time wasters are real enemies of success. They simply divert your attention from accomplishing your goals and take you to activities that are of less or no importance in life. Some of the goals you may have purposed to achieve range from building relationships, achieving financial success or creating an adorable achievement profile.
On the other hand, “time wasters” could be people, events or habits that lead to the opposite path away from your goals. The ultimate starting point in setting things straight and removing the time wasters in life is identifying them. You need to sit down and analyze the activities which take our time. The analysis here is to help us see how we spend time and use it against what we really need to be doing to accomplish our goals in life. Start by making a list of your activities here.
Which of these activities you listed can be said to be neither urgent nor important? Sometimes it could be a simple addiction to a TV Soap Opera, constant distractions or even one of your core activities that you are not excellent at doing. You can for instance imagine that you are a business owner and you keep sabotaging your business deals. It may be time for you to re-think your strategy and have your associates do the marketing while you concentrate on the areas you are best in.
The next thing would be to ensure that you plan your daily activities. We can never over-emphasize the concept of planning in proper time management. One of the obvious reasons is that you will have an upper hand in fighting against time wasters in your schedule. If you know what you want to do, what you don’t want to do becomes clear. And your focus is strengthened.
When you think of people you spend time with, you will definitely notice that some have a more positive impact on your success while others have a negative one. It is important to be able to sort them out especially with regard to your schedule. While we do not advocate for you to throw away relationships, it is good to know that many times helping a friend who is emotionally disturbed can wait for dinner time and does not have to interrupt your writing that proposal or beating that deadline.
Finally, do the same to your habits. List all the habits and addictions you remember taking any amount of your time. Then take a little time to sort them out in line with their importance and urgency. Depending on your analysis, kill those habits that are detrimental to your goals in life.
