JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. —

A group of workers is planning a rally in Jeffersonville after learning they would be losing their jobs in March.

Earlier this week, Tri-Starr Management, also known as Legacy, announced it was no longer going to be running its Jeffersonville location.

The warehouse itself is owned by GE Appliance’s parent company Haier. It packages and ships products from GE Appliance.

Warehouse operations will now be transferred over to a new company called Dart but the employees will not. .

Sharon Taylor is among the affected workers. She has been at the same location for 20 years and is just four years shy of retirement.

“This is just really devastating,” Taylor said.

The employees were first notified of the layoffs in December.

“They said that Legacy was going to be leaving and Dart was going to be coming in,” Taylor said.

According to employees, they were told they could reapply for their positions through a temp agency but they would not keep their same pay rate or seniority if hired.

“No seniority. We would have to start from day one with everything,” Taylor said.

Sharon is among the workers who are members of the IUE-CWA Local 84807 union.

“Employees are being tossed aside after decades of employment service, being forced to re-apply for their job through a temp agency with no guarantee of hiring or wages at their current levels. This is not a business decision—this is about corporate greed. The business is profitable and they are planning to continue to run it,” local union rep Jammie Willen.

Sharon is holding out hope that a deal can be reached with the Dart that will allow them to keep their jobs.

“I like working there. I loved it there. I liked what I did. I loved my job. I liked the people there,” Taylor said.

The rally is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 3:30 p.m. across from the Tri-Starr Legacy Facility on Port Road in Jeffersonville.
