SIBU: Sarawak Royal Customs Department arrested a 27-year-old man for possession of 2,041 grammes of drugs worth about RM102,050 at the Bintulu Bus Terminal last Tuesday night.
State Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha said that the suspect was apprehended at about 9pm when he turned up at the bus terminal to collect the parcel in a suspicious manner.
‘Initial investigation revealed that the parcel contained methamphetamine, which is believed to be distributed for the consumption of the local market,” she said in a media statement today.
Sharifah said the modus operandi of the suspect was to use the inter-town cargo bus services between Miri and Bintulu before the drugs were distributed to the local market.
She said the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
She also urged the members of the public to provide information on smuggling activities like cigarettes, liquor, firecrackers and drugs by calling the Customs Toll Free line at 1-800-88-8855.

She assures that the identities of the individuals will be kept confidential.
