Another handful of students received certifications from the
Warehousing program of the Manteca Adult School.

They were lauded for their dedication and hard work during a
recognition ceremony at the Manteca Unified School District complex on Friday.

For the past five weeks – eight hours per night – they
logged in some 80 hours learning everything from the warehouse supply chain
distribution concepts, to basic warehouse operations, warehouse maintenance,
and safety during the Career Technical Education session.

According to Manteca Adult School Principal Brad Harrison,
each of these students earned Certified Logistics Associate certification along
with the Forklift Certificate of Completion and the OSHA-10 (lifetime)
Certification Card.

With that, they’re now eligible for entry-level Warehousing
jobs.

“We also helped them with resume building and their job
interviewing skills,” said CTE teacher Ryan Costa.

Harrison added that this program is held in partnership with
Prologis – currently the largest owner of warehouses and distribution centers
in the world – along with San Joaquin County Work Net and San Joaquin Delta
College.

The newly certified then had a chance to find work with a
warehousing job fair held that same morning at the nearby Regional Environmental
Study Center.

“We have plenty of fulltime spots available,” said Allison
Haynes of Amazon.

She and Jaime Perez are staffing coordinator for the Amazon
warehouses in Stockton, Lathrop and Manteca.

Haynes started there as a seasonal worker about four years
ago while Perez was hired full-time Tier 1 employee about the same time.

Amazon along with Coastal Pacific Tools, Dollar Tree, OG
Packing, ProLogistix, Victory Packing, and Wayfair, to name a few.

The job fair will help applicants get a foot in the door.

“They’d have to come into our office and have their
certifications validated,” said ProLogistix Area Manager Dawn Beckwith.

The other part of screening includes Forklift Certification
Specialist Aaron Tittsworth having the prospective employee undergo forklift
test skills.

Costa said another job fair at MUSD is planned for May 6.
The public is invited.
