STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — When Stephen King reads a book he likes, he’s not afraid to let the world know.
The acclaimed horror writer — responsible for “It,” “The Shining,” “Misery” and “Pet Cemetery,” among others — took to social media Friday to discuss “The Warehouse” by West Brighton resident Rob Hart.
“Here’s an engrossing novel that will make you forget all about your favorite streaming service for a few nights,” King wrote on Twitter. “The flap says, ‘Big Brother meets Big Business,’ and that pretty much nails it.”
Hart’s new dystopian fiction book — published by Random House imprint The Crown Publishing Group and edited by Julian Pavia, who handled massive successes like “Ready Player One” and “The Martian” — hit shelves in August. The author held a Staten Island book signing during its release week.

Before getting the King seal of approval, Imagine Entertainment chief Brian Grazer won the screen rights to “The Warehouse” in May 2018. A bidding war resulted in a “high six-figure deal,” according to Deadline.com’s Mike Fleming Jr. Oscar winner Ron Howard is expected to direct.
Hart told SILive.com “the book is in great hands” with Howard, who has directed films like “Apollo 13,” “Splash” and “A Beautiful Mind.”
“This is incredible. I’ve been a fan of Ron Howard since I was a kid,” the borough-based author said. “I’m still not entirely convinced this isn’t some elaborate prank or a coma dream. But, seriously, I’m thrilled.”

Hart also wrote the Ash McKenna noir series (Polis Books) and co-authored “Scott Free” with James Patterson. “The Warehouse” is his first standalone novel.
Here’s a synopsis: “In a near-future America ravaged by political strife and climate change, an online retail giant named Cloud brands itself a global savior but hides a dark truth. Two of its employees, one in security and the other a spy, meet and fall in love. However, their relationship is soon threatened by the deadly nature of the spy’s mission and the all-powerful mega-corporation they both work for.”
