The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation announced its plan to add to its modernisation procurement process the Windsor Gaming Package, which currently consists of the Windsor Casino.
To facilitate the decision, the OLG has entered into a three-year agreement with the current operator, Caesars Entertainment Windsor Limited, to extend its existing contract beyond the previous expiry of July 31, 2020.
The crown agency that produces digital content for the province of Ontario stresses that a fair and competitive procurement process for the package would take some time before the day-to-day activities are turned into the effective supporter.
In addition it is said that the OLG will allow the active applicant to maintain workers at the Windsor Casino for a period of no less than 12 months once it takes over the site’s service in mid-2023. This 12-month retention period is consistent with the rest of Ontario’s Gaming Bundles.
Under the terms and conditions of their collective agreement, Unionised employees will transfer to the successful proponent.
In the latter stages of the year, the OLG plans to file a pre-qualification submission for the Windsor Gaming Pack.
“Launching a competitive procurement to select a long-term service provider for the Windsor Gaming Bundle will complete OLG’s modernisation of the Ontario gaming marketplace,” said Stephen Rigby, OLG’s president and chief executive officer. “It will also help protect the long-term competitiveness of the Windsor market.”
Since 1975, OLG has supported the citizens and province of Ontario with more than $52 billion to fund key government initiatives such as health care, problem gambling treatment and prevention, and amateur athlete sponsorship.
Proceeds from OLG’s activities also help host communities, First Nations in Ontario, lottery retailers and local charities throughout the area each year.
