TransANT has been jointly developed by RCA Rail Cargo Austria, the freight affiliate of Austrian Railways (ÖBB) and one of its most important customers for inbound and outbound flows, steel manufacturer Voestalpine AG.
TransANT is a modular light weight platform that can be customised for different customer requirements. The rail cars are built from high-strength Alform steel, and offer reduced tare and higher payload – up to 4 tonnes – within any given train trailing length and weight envelope. They can be supplied in 33ft, 40ft, 45ft, 48ft, 52ft, 60ft and 70ft lengths.
The first set of 13 double units, with a train length of 293m, has been delivered to Logistik Service GmbH (LogServ), a subsidiary of the Voestalpine Group. The total order comprises 30 double units with a total length of 675m and a total weight of 1,170 tonnes, and will be handed over by the end of 2019.
Rail Cargo’s Chief Sales Officer Thomas Kargl said: “TransANT shows how the rail freight business model is geared to specific customer requirements and delivers a tailor-made product. And this innovation is also an example of how we are leading the rail industry and rail freight traffic into a modern future.”
